Preparing for the RICA Written Examination

Practice Test

A practice test for the RICA Written Examination is available as an additional resource to help candidates effectively prepare for the test by selecting "Written Examination Practice Test" on the RICA website. The practice test provides a sample test form consisting of 60 multiple-choice questions and five constructed-response assignments. Also included are an answer key for the multiple-choice questions, sample responses to the constructed-response assignments, and evaluations of the sample responses for the constructed-response assignments. The primary purpose of the practice test is to help candidates become familiar with the structure and content of the test and identify areas in which to focus their studies.

Tutorials for Computer-Based Testing

CBT Tutorials. These tutorials can give you a sense of what you will see when you begin your test at a Pearson Professional Center. The tutorials are available by selecting "Tutorials for Computer-Based Testing" on the RICA website.

Pearson Professional Centers Tour. The Pearson Professional Centers Tour gives candidates taking the RICA Written Examination a virtual tour of a Pearson Professional Center. It includes a video and floorplan to help acquaint the candidate with the Pearson Professional Centers testing experience. Select "Tutorials for Computer-Based Testing" on the RICA website to view this tour. As noted in the Pearson Professional Centers Tour, some testing programs require two forms of identification at check-in. To take a California educator credentialing examination, such as the RICA Written Examination, you will be asked to provide one form of identification. Refer to "What to Bring to the Test Center" for more information on proper identification.

Preparing for the RICA Video Performance Assessment

A RICA Video Performance Assessment Information Guide, which provides a detailed description of the requirements of the RICA Video Performance Assessment and the steps it entails, is available on the RICA website by selecting "Video Performance Assessment Information Guide." The information guide is derived from and is very similar to the RICA Video Performance Assessment Procedures Manual, which candidates receive after registering for the Video Performance Assessment. The purpose of the information guide is to provide candidates and others with more detailed information about the Video Performance Assessment. The information guide is for informational purposes only. Registered candidates must follow the directions provided in the RICA Video Performance Assessment Procedures Manual.
